The building itself, architect’s Erich Mendelsohn’s creation, came into existence between 1928 and 1931. Over the years it hosted The Berlin Ballroom, legendary clubs – Badewanne and Dschungel- , and finally, since 2007, the unique Hotel Ellington.
The name of the property is no coincidence. Legendary Duke Ellington used to perform here, amongst other stars like Louis Armstrong or Ella Fitzgerald, before the building was transformed into a gorgeous hotel. Continue reading Ellington Hotel – the duke amongst Berlin hotels
This charming little hotel in the heart of Athens’s central Plaka district, named after the owner’s grandmother, is basically everything I look for in a place to stay in a big city. Established four years ago, Alice Inn combines the atmosphere of a lovely old Athenian building, modern eclectic design, and an individual approach to guests. It is very conveniently located between the 1st and 2nd arrondisement in the South and the 18th in the North. What it means in non-Parisian language is that famous sites like Monmartre and the Sacre Coeur Basilica, the Louvre Museum, Jardins de Tuilleries, and many more, are all easily accessible by metro in the same short period of time.
