The Temples in Ayutthaya, Thailand


The tradesmen coming to Ayutthaya at the turn of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries were greeted by the striking sight of a few hundred golden towers. The city, with over one million inhabitants at that time, experienced its “golden age”. Rice and ivory attracted merchants from Europe and the whole Asia. The powerful capital of Siam was pulsating with life and stories told by the merchants, stories about the stunningly beautiful temples and their great number, have made the city famous.
